SOLSTICE – CATHEDRAL – FREJUS (83)

A solstice is the time of year when the sun reaches its furthest distance.
from the equator. In the northern hemisphere, the summer solstice is the highest day
long and the shortest winter one.
This project will be an opportunity to express this dichotomy between the "day" and
“night” of the project; It will depart from the vastness of the celestial sphere to connect to
mythology and festivals celebrated in these periods of Summer and Winter.
First, we will deal with Roman mythologies related to the summer solstice
to evoke the Roman character of Frejus through architectural elements
emblems of the city.
Summer will settle in a sunrise, seeds, plants and flowers awakening.
Summer deities will invade the facade then in a whirlwind of flowers
reminiscent of Midsommar, the Scandinavian solstice festival, the facade will be adorned with
vibrant, twirling flower crowns.
A bonfire, evoking St Jean, will illuminate the facade before leaving
the Earth in its race around the Sun to discover the winter period.
We will then discover in a mysterious and mystical way, the evocation
different legends of Winter, such as the celebrations of the peoples
Scandinavian, Sol Invictus, Roman festivities made in the Sun, and finally the periods
magical and snowy Christmas.
An opportunity to combine science and myth in a great pendulum between
seasons.
